I have a friend who is a local Porche mechanic so I asked him about the problems mentioned with the 944. About the problem with traffic appearing to go slower than before: this can be explained by the fact that the windshield glass is made of a special material that is designed to handle the high speed of the autobahn. The material is designed to conform to the pressure from the high speeds without shattering. Unfortunately, at low speeds it tends to make objects appear slower than they usually are(somewhat similar to normal side view mirors -- remember the warnings). Concerning the problem with the incorrect speedometer readings: your dealer negelcted to give you the special template which overlays the speedometer glass and converts to the real ground speed. The template can be removed when you are pulled over for speeding, then you can take the nice police officer out for a drive and show him that your speedometer is off by about 30mph. This template is a must for states with spotter planes and radar. Lastly, about the dirty looks from inferior car owners: it seems that the aerodynamic wind tunnel testing for the 944 was done in a converted hangar in Nurinburging that was used by Hitler for jet plane design. The offshoot is that at low speeds the airflow over the car forms a life like image of the Fuehrer himself and you know how many anti-Nazis there are prowling the streets these days. Well, the moral of all of this is to drive fast and find a Porche mechanic like mine, how you trust implicitly. Good luck.
