The Window System Association of America is pleased to announce its
revised window system, NC17. NC17 is a window system for the 1990s,
with none of the controversy surrounding "X". Many major vendors have
already indicated their support for NC17, including

        Itsy Bitsy Machines
        Dismal Equipment Corp.
        Some Microsystems
        Peach Computer
        Data Colonel
        Composite Computer
        Abode Systems
        American Telescope and Telepath
        Network Confusing Dervishes
        LaTER Computer Systems

Some of the features of NC17 include:

        - NC17 is an open system
        - NC17 is network-transparent
        - NC17 uses the popular client-server model
        - NC17 specifies an industry-standard "Look and Feel"
        - NC17 is easy to use
        - NC17 does not have complicated commands or options
        - NC17 cannot be used by annoying teenagers
        - NC17 presents the ultimate in form over substance

The first public release of NC17 is available for anonymous ftp on
crl.dec.com, in /pub/nc17/nc17.tar.Z. It will soon be available from
other archive sites on the Internet. Many vendors have committed to
ship products based on NC17 within the next century.

There is also a mailing list to discuss NC17, NC17pert@crl.dec.com. To
be added to the mailing list, please send mail to
NC17pert-request@crl.dec.com (decwrl!deccrl!NC17pert).
