I think the lads over at ftp.cs.toronto.edu have a copy of mine available.
It does egrep-style regular expressions.  I believe the one in perl is a
heavily-mutated version of mine, although I haven't confirmed this.
Certainly mine is used in a pile of other things, including commercial
products from several companies.
