You will notice some things that have been posted to vmsnet.sources are
missing. That's because my automatic archiver DCL procedure just didn't
have enough AI to figure out what to do with them. Or it thought it did
and spread a posting over 20 directories.
I'm not trying to be the vmsnet.sources.police, but if you expect your
posting to be archived here, my archiver follows a couple of simple rules:
(1) If there is an archive-name: header within the first 20 lines of the
message, use that as the directory/filename.
(2) If not (1), select the first 6 words of the subject: header.
If word 1 is "RE:" shift all the words to the left by one word.
Match the patterns: (n, m must be integer; aaa, bbb, ccc any word)
aaa n of m -> [aaa]partn.share.
aaa bbb n of m -> [aaa_bbb]partn.share.
aaa n_of_m -> [aaa]partn.share.
aaa bbb n_of_m -> [aaa_bbb]partn.share.
aaa n/m -> [aaa]partn.share.
aaa bbb n/m -> [aaa_bbb]partn.share.
aaa bbb ccc n/m -> [aaa_bbb_ccc]partn.share.
aaa bbb ccc -> [aaa_bbb_ccc]part00.share.
As you can see, there aren't nearly enough rules to figure out what to do
with the subject "My new utility to warp time and space (Part 10 of 47)".
I'm not particularly interested in making it any smarter, either.
Some suggestions:
* Use VMS_SHARE. Mailserver requests have to go through gateways that
are sure to botch long lines, braces and other strange characters.
* Use vmsnet.sources.d or part 0/m to describe the software package.
* Don't post questions to vmsnet.sources; use vmsnet.sources.d.
OK, that's not a suggestion. THAT'S AN ORDER! :-)
As I said above, if you aren't interested in me archiving your stuff,
I don't mind cleaning the junk out of the archive directory. Much.
