The town of Brooklyn on the Hawkesbury |River was named after "Brooklyn" in New York. The original |railway bridge over the Hawkesbury bridge was constructed with |stone piles that can still be seen. A lot of the stone work was |carried out by Italian stone masons, who were brought from New |York, where they had just finished work on the the Brooklyn |bridge over the Hudson River.
