It is now copywrited by LANPort, INC. of Pleasanton, CA. We have the following statement from Peter Roll, Vice President for Information Services at Northwesthern University: "Northwestern University has licensed distribution of the PCroute software to LANPort, Inc. of Pleasanton, CA. Those currently using this software are permitted by LANPort to continue at no charge. It will be to your advantage to register this use with LANPort to receive information on updates and improvements to the product. Those interested in obtaining and licensing use of PCroute must now contact LANPort for information: Etienne Taylor, 415-462-8700. Northwestern University's purpose in licensing PCroute is to ensure it is supported, maintained, and improved to become a more valuable product for Northwestern and for other existing and future users. The only way to assure this is to license it to a firm that is interested and willing to invest in it as a product, with the assurance of some return on its investment." We have the following statements in a letter of 4/18/91 from Etienne Taylor President of LANPort, Inc. "Please forgive the confusion we caused on the "Internet" this week. ...it is not our intention at this time to charge any educational or non-profit institution any thing for this version of PCroute. It is our intention to produce a much enhanced version of the product to be sold to the commercial market. We will then make this version of PCroute available to the Internet community at no, or nominal cost, perhaps through site license agreements. Our intention has never been, no will it ever be, to make money off the backs of our most valued resource, the current users of PCroute. Rather we are counting on continued good raport and guidance from these most experienced users in the further development of the commercial version of PCroute. In the meantime you have our permission to continue to distribute PCroute, via anonymous FTP under the same terms and conditions, until further notice. The only change that I would ask is that you change the copyright notice read "LANPort, Inc. Pleasanton, CA (415) 462-8700". ...Please, do not hesitate to give any PCrouter user any of my following numbers. Work # (415) 462-8700 / Fax # (415) 462-4805" ----------------------------------------- asteiner@casbah.acns.nwu.edu Albert Steiner, Academic Computing and Networking, Northwestern University, Evanston, IL 60208 708-491-4056 -- comp.archives file verification accuvax.nwu.edu total 717 -r--r--r-- 1 0 2056 Apr 24 14:23 copywrit.doc -rw-r--r-- 1 0 960 Apr 24 14:21 README dr--r--r-- 3 301 512 Mar 27 08:37 exp -r--r--r-- 1 301 107327 Feb 27 12:27 pcroute2.2.tar.Z -r--r--r-- 1 301 131801 Feb 27 12:27 pcroute2.2.src.tar.Z -r--r--r-- 1 301 30977 Feb 27 09:52 pcbridge1.2.tar.Z -r--r--r-- 1 301 57197 Feb 27 09:52 pcbridge1.2.src.tar.Z -r--r--r-- 1 301 1284 Feb 18 09:56 readme.1st -r--r--r-- 1 301 6577 Feb 18 09:54 compress.doc -r--r--r-- 1 301 26793 Feb 18 09:54 uncomp.exe -r--r--r-- 1 301 6683 Feb 12 15:07 readme.pcbridge.doc -r--r--r-- 1 301 28340 Feb 12 14:47 tar.exe -r--r--r-- 1 301 97213 Jun 20 1990 pcroute2.1.tar.Z -r--r--r-- 1 301 160611 Jun 20 1990 pcroute2.1.src.tar.Z dr--r--r-- 2 301 512 Jun 7 1990 analyzer -r--r--r-- 1 301 22310 Feb 13 1990 pcbridge1.1.tar.Z -r--r--r-- 1 301 11321 Aug 9 1989 readme.pcroute.doc -r--r--r-- 1 301 2054 Jul 31 1989 copywrit.doc~ found pcroute ok accuvax.nwu.edu:/pub/pcroute/
