Original-subject: Summary: POP mail for VMS
Reposted-by: emv@msen.com (Edward Vielmetti, MSEN)

On April 19, we posted a question concerning POP Server/Client software
for VAX/VMS.

The following is a summary of responses:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Multinet:

Many People replied, indicating that the next release of Multinet (Version 3.0)
will include a POP2 and POP3 server. This version is due to be released
in the late May/early June time frame.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
University of Minnesota:

The Unversity of Minnesota has developed a POP2 server for VMS running
on either Multinet or Wollongong TCP/IP. It is available via anonymous/FTP
at vx.acs.umn.edu. For more information contact Dave Nieters
(DAVEN@VX.ACS.UMN.EDU)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IUPOP3 (Indiana University)

Larry Hughes of IU writes:

Here at IU we have quite an excellent POP3 server for VMS. It
was developed to run on Wollongong, but it turns out that it works
perfectly with Multinet with about 3-4 trivial changes.

You can anonymously FTP "IUPOP3" from mythos.ucs.indiana.edu
(129.79.16.210). Look in the /pub/iupop3 directory. The
"README.MULTINET" will tell you the changes to make for Multinet.

Check it out...lots of other sites use it and we've received many
compliments.

University of Oregon:

Rich Haller writes:

We are in the process of experimenting with a POP3 server on our Vaxcluster
running VMS, WIN TCP and PMDF. I have used the Eudora client for the Macintosh
against it and find it very nice. For information on where to get the VMS
server and how easy it is to install, et cetera, contact Dale Smith,
dsmith@xylem.uoregon.edu.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A final note:

A POP mailing list is currrently being maintained on jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu.
To subscribe, send to "POP-requests@jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu". To send mail
to the list, "POP@jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu"
Also an archive of all activity on the list is available on jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu
in the pub/poplist.mail directory.

Many thanks to all who replied,
Steve
