What I am suggesting is that someone who has a program like this put >it on one of the ftp sites... [stuff deleted] Way back when I ran a lpmud, I thought exactly the same thing. Included in the version of lpmud we were running, was a port listener for exactly the purpose mentioned above. I hacked it alittle so that it could be somewhat more dynamic than it was ( you had to recompile to change the message that it told people. ) I will put it up for anonymous FTP on calvin.nmsu.edu ( 128.123.35.150 ) in pub/mud/misc/sorry.tar.Z for those of you interested. Expect it there in a day or two, I need to include a README for the little beastie. Reposted-by: emv@msen.com (Edward Vielmetti, MSEN) Check out pub/announce.c.Z for ftp on watnxt2.ucr.edu (192.31.146.189). It's standalone, and basically the same one provided with MUCK 2.2, with the addition of a TIOCNOTTY (for proper daemonizing :) and the removal of an *embarrassing* gets() call I wrote. /* * announce - sits listening on a port, and whenever anyone connects * announces a message and disconnects them * * Usage: announce [port] < message_file * * Author: Lawrence Brown <lpb@cs.adfa.oz.au> Aug 90 * * Bits of code are adapted from the Berkeley telnetd sources */ --chupchups rearl@watnxt3.ucr.edu rearl@gnu.ai.mit.edu ObSomethingAboutMyMud: Try the MbongoMUCK mailing list!
