LabanWriter is a specialized drawing application for a type of movement notation called Labanotation. It does not _do_ the notation for you, but it enables someone who is familiar with Labanotation to record movement quickly and easily and produce a high-quality score. LabanWriter runs on the Macintosh family of computers (Mac Plus and up). Best of all, LabanWriter is free! We do offer a subscription ($30 per year) if you want to make sure you always have the latest release. If you are an official LabanWriter subscriber, you should have received the update in the mail by now. If not, it is available via anonymous ftp from ftp.dance.ohio-state.edu (in the /mac directory). *** This machine is not in our department, so please refrain from ftp-ing LabanWriter during normal working hours. *** The archive is a BinHexed self-unstuffing archive, so you will need StuffIt or BinHex to "un-BinHex" the archive before expanding it. Both are available for ftp on sumex-aim.stanford.edu (in the /info-mac/util directory). Don't forget to use binary mode when downloading them. If you are already familiar with LabanWriter 2.0, new features of LabanWriter version 2.1 include the following: - LabanWriter now handles text! This includes things like measure numbers, descriptions, and just about anything else you want to type in. Measure numbers can be added to a staff automatically in the Page Layout area. - You can now resize any direction symbol, turn, path, or bow after you place it on the page by using the Resize command. - In the Page Layout area, you can now click on staffs and move them (and their symbols) anywhere on the page. - You can now align symbols automatically by using the Align command. - There is a new tool in the Main Palette called a Rconstrained lineS tool. This draws lines vertically, horizontally, or on a 45 degree angle. - The Line tool (as well as the text and constrained line tools) stays active so that you can draw as many lines as you want without having to reselect it. - There is no longer a selection box tool. Instead, just click in any empty space on the page and drag to form the selection box. - You can now tell LabanWriter to place any symbol exactly where you click by holding down the command (apple-clover) key. - In the floorplans editor, you can now hold down the Option key as you click on Draw It so that LabanWriter wonUt disturb your staff layout. - New symbols include new and redesigned foot hooks, smaller carets, some new angling symbols and separate top and bottom pieces of the design drawing symbol. - The Level commands, Low, Middle, High, and None now work on all direction symbols that are currently selected. If you have any questions, problems downloading LabanWriter, or you need to have me email you a copy, please drop me a line at scott@dance.ohio-state.edu. Cheers, Scott --- Scott A.
