The software must be able to use Kanji. > Sigh, this must be one of s.l.j's "most asked questions". I have prepared the following in an attempt to simplify the questions that are asked about MOKE. MOKE - Mark's Own Kanji Editor ============================== There are two versions of MOKE: (a) the shareware MOKE1.1 (crude, but usable). Available from lots of anonymous FTP sites; (b) the commercial MOKE2.0. Available from KiCompWare (see below) The following information has been extracted from the moke.hlp and order.hlp files in the MOKE2.0 distribution. What is MOKE MOKE is a Japanese language word processor for the PC with some basic commands that are similar to the UNIX editor 'vi'. The name MOKE is partially inspired from JOVE (Jonathan's Own Version of Emacs) and shows some lack of creativity. MOKE is pronounced "mok" and rhymes with "coke". MOKE is a full screen editor and allows input of English, hiragana, katakana, and most importantly kanji. MOKE also provides a method to display readings of kanji on the screen as well as the English translations of words typed into the English dictionary. To use MOKE you need some basic knowledge of the Japanese language. MOKE supports the JIS Level I and Level II character sets and uses public domain fonts for display. MOKE uses a combination of the Simple Kana to Kanji Dictionary by Masahiko Sato of Tohoku University and Wnn Public Dictionaries by the Software Research Group of Kyoto University Research Institute for Mathematical Science, OMRON TATEISI ELECTRONICS CO., and Astec, Inc, for its kana-to-kanji dictionary. In the MOKE distribution there are two programs for printing Japanese. The program kanjips will print to Postscript printers. The program jprint will print to 9 or 24-pin Epson compatible dot matrix printers and HP LaserJet II printers. Ordering Info MOKE Additional Copies of MOKE 2.0 can be ordered by sending $49.95 and $5.00 for shipping and handling (Outside the U.S. and Canada add an additional $5 US per copy).
