[can.usrgroup] looking for respondants for RFP

evan@telly.on.ca (Cymru the dragon) (03/14/89)

I'm in the process of hunting, on behalf of a medium-sized municipality,
for a system to do Unix-based office-automation and DBMS work. Pretty
vanilla stuff. The plan is for a system that can be purchased intially
to support about 50 users, but must be expandable without pain to 350.

The Unix implememtation itself must be SysV r3.1 or r3.2.
No BSD. No Xenix.

Both single-CPU and multiple-CPU solutions (supporting RFS) are
being considered. Though the initial buy will be for RS-232/curses
applications, a migration path to X11 (and probably Motif) is required.

To date, there is a list of seven companies being considered. I am
interested in the experiences and suggestions from this group, both
to point out companies we have not considered, and to give good/bad
impressions about the present state of the market for such systems.

(Yes, much of this is overly vague. At this stage, that's deliberate.)

Thank you.
