[can.usrgroup] serial port problem - suggestions?

evan@telly.on.ca (Cymru the dragon) (04/07/89)

I am trying to configure a 386 system running Enix (SysV/386 r3.2) to
eventually replace telly. A serial port problem has come up, and I'm
wondering is any of you can help me trace the source.

The system's mommyboard has COM1: and COM2: hardwired (though they can be
disabled). The Enix manual sez that COM1: is /dev/tty00 and COM2: is
/dev/tty01 (major device 3, minors 0 and 1).

The COM1: port, tty00, works fine. The COM2: port, tty01, doesn't. It sends
characters fine (judging from a breakout box), but received characters
can't be read by the device.

The problem does not appear to be hardware, as I booted Messy-DOS on the
system and Kermit worked fine from BOTH ports. And since port 0 works fine,
it doesn't appear that the driver is at fault.

Suggestions? I'll be calling into Enix support, but the better I can explain
the problem, the better.

Thanks.
