[can.usrgroup] Ring down the curtain

paul@moore.UUCP (Paul Maclauchlan) (07/28/89)

It is with regret that I pass on the sad news that our friendly
oasis at UofT FLIS is no longer available to Unix Unanimous for
the monthly meetings. George Bacon has graciously hosted us
for many many months and the group certainly appreciates his
efforts and recognizes his giant contribution to the success
of the group. It is no wonder they named the street after him!

And now we must move on.

Those of you at the meeting are aware that I collected a few
ideas for alternate meeting places. I am asking that if
anyone reading this can offer a room that holds about 40
people for three hours one night a month, please let me know.
You will be showered with praise and recognized as a uu-guru.

The preference among the UU'ers last night is for a place
downtownish and at no or low cost. What do you think about
charging a meeting fee to support the cost of the rooms?

I believe we agreed that the following people would check out
these locations:

- Community Centre at 519 Church (@ Welesley): sonia@fricker

- Central Room Allocation @ UofT: paul@moore

- Public Library: paul@moore

- Local hospital meeting rooms: taras@utgpu

Greg (woods@eci386) will make a representation at this weekend's
/usr/group/cdn directors' meeting regarding available funding
for Unix Unanimous meetings. The Board of Trade was suggested
as a possible location, or perhaps a meeting room could be
supplied by a corporate sponsor.

My basement in Oakville is still available, but you will have
to bring your own chairs. :-)

On another topic, Evan is to be thanked for obtaining very
capable and interesting speakers for the last two meetings.
And thanks to Hugh for entertaining us with Tales of ANSI C!

Stay tuned and be sure to call or write if you have a place
that UU can call home!
