Does anyone have what they would consider to be useful 'benchmark' source code, something that tests CPU, disk and terminal I/O. This is for the purpose of doing a/b tests of Unix platforms for office automation. I'm not interested in things that do only floating point or CPU testing - I already have Whetstones, Dhrystones, Sogghystones, and whatever from the manufaturers. Now I want to test them in real-world situations (or at least something approaching real-world :-). Among the software I plan to use is: Cnews (expire and relaynews) pathalias compress rot done on identical data files, of course. The time needed to build and compile the above software will also be part of the test. Any other ideas of what would make a good test, or why any of the above would be inappropriate for this purpose? If this means anything, the two systems being tested are based on (different) RISC processors.
