Perhaps there's a better solution than unsubscribing and re-subscribing between co-op terms. For example, what about setting up accounts on contact that will automatically forward mail to Waterloo. My own system has a little over a hundred virtual usernames that do such a thing. For example, if you were to send mail to john@graham, it'll hit some guy on FidoNet, without any manual intervention. The account on contact could then be modified again when the student returns from school. This might be a simple matter of whether the list-administrator or contact's system administrator makes a change but, for the system administrator to make the change, means that regular mail can be sent to the same address all the time thereby reducing interuption of mail service. -- Thought of the day: Whosoever diggeth a pit shall fall therein. Yes, a co-operating (:-) system administrator would forward mail for a co-op student, and this is the best way to do it. However, what struck me as interesting was the fact that the un-subscribe-me messages went out to the list in general, not to the list-administrator (paul@moore, and/or hopefully unix-unanimous-request@moore). I would also like to point out that a system administrator can also create local mailing list forwarder's. I have unix-unanimous mail sent to unix-unanimous-fwd@robohack. That way I can add new users immediately, and delete them when necessary. I also send mail to the list administrator in order for him to keep an up to date list of real names receiving the list. We do something similar with mailing lists at work. Since more than one person usually wants to read the list, we gateway through news, and no-one's mailbox gets flooded. -- Greg A.
