I am looking for a bodywork shop in Monmouth County, New Jersey to do some
welding work and a complete paint job on my car. Any suggestions on what
I should look for when having bodywork done and any recommendations on
specific bodywork shops in Monmouth County would be appreciated.

Well, one piece of advice I can offer to anyone getting body work done
is to *ASK QUESTIONS*. I just got my car painted and if I had been a little
sharper I would be a few dollars richer. For example, when I was having
the estimate done, the rep. asked, "Do you want your door jambs painted for
an extra $70?". Me being one who thinks it is very tacky to paint a car and
not do the door jambs, said yes. Well, it turns out that at many body shops,
their definition of a door jamb is not what every one else calls a door jamb.
Most people consider it to be ALL around the inside where the door closes,
including vertical surfaces. Well, the body shop defines the door jambs as
the top part of the rocker panel that folds under the door, period.
Another point: The rep. told me that they remove all necessary mouldings.
They do to. Necessary to do body work, that is. If a particular panel
doesn't need body work, the mouldings get taped off, not removed. Also
ask about painting behind things like license plates. On my car they masked
it off and painted.
It can only help to ask questions. I learned the hard way. Don't take
anything for granted and ask for as many definitions (i.e. the door jambs)
as you can.

A note to anyone in the Western New York area:
If you are considering having your car done at M.D. Collision on
South Transit Rd. **BEWARE**!!! Their body work is fairly decent,
but their paint jobs are extremely tacky. They mask everthing off
instead of removing it and the masking job isn't that great either.
