Can any kind person point me to a source of information about P-threads (yes, P-, not Mach's C-threads), which I understand are a proposed superset? Thanks in advance. I'll be glad to post answer(s) that work. George Bosworth !uunet!fai.com!georgeb

There is a draft proposal (tentatively, 1003.4) working its way through the
IEEE POSIX standardization process, currently entitled "Real Time Extentions
for Portable Operating Systems". The proposal includes a standardized
application program interface for concurrent, multi-threaded programs, but
there is no commitment to a particular implementation tactic; coroutines,
kernel-supported threads, and "1 process per 'thread'" all seem to be
permissible. For more information, contact Nawaf Bitar at the Open Software
Foundation (nawaf@osf.org) who, I believe, is Chairman of the responsible
subcommittee.
