SR rated tires are supposed to be able to handle sustained speeds of 100mph for several hours. The tires can be run faster than 100mph, but not for long periods of time (>30min). HR rated tires are supposed to be able to handle sustained speeds of 130mph for several hours. These are the tires that you would run on the autobaun. The difference between the two is in how the tire deforms at high speed, and how well it can dissipate heat. Keven Boyett tektronix!tekid!kevenb

I looked at my R&T during lunch; Goodyears test was 70 minutes
at 118 to 130 to get the VR rating.....Gee! It would be neet to find
a place that I could drive that fast, that long!!!

I recenty bought a new set of tires for my 1980 Toyota Corolla SR-5
and am quite pleased with them. They are a tire made in Sweden called
Gislaved (pronounced Gi-shlahv-ed) Speed 224. I used to have a set of
Michelin XZX's on there and before that I had a set of Dunlop SP-4
Sport Radials. In my opinion (not just because the Gislaved is rated
better that both of them) the Gislaved far surpasses both the Dunlops
and the Michelins. I took them for a few of my own road tests and I am
convinced that the car would roll over long before the tires let go of the
road. And in water you have to be going at least 65 mph in 3-4 inches
of water before you can say that you are hydroplaning. What I would
like to know is if anyone out there has had any experience with these
tires and what your opinion of them is. The thing that suprised me the
most is that they were the same price as the Dunlops and cheaper that the
Michelins. A set of 4 cost me $200 even. BTW, it is pretty damn hard
to even roll the tread on these things!
