georgeb@fai.UUCP (George Bosworth) (08/30/90)
I apologize for reposting the following, but our incoming
news receipt is faulty, and email would be appreciated.
In bringing Mach 2.5 up on a Vax 11/780, we rebuilt the
kernel to include the Vax's ethernet controller, but the
resulting network capability is limited:
1. rlogin to/from the Vax doesn't work, and we lack
the rlogin command module and the rlogind network
daemon. (On Mach 2.0, rlogin worked fine.)
2. We can ping to/from other machines, and can ftp
outward but not inward. The ftp files are present.
3. We added to /etc/rc.local the line `/etc/inetd` ;
on the next boot, the system hangs in inetd.
Appreciate any suggestions; our network expert went east!
