[comp.os.mach] Problems with X and Mach 2.5

wbt@rex.cs.tulane.edu (Bill Thomason) (12/06/90)

The installation notes for Mach 2.5 mention that if you login as guest
X windows should come up automatically. Well, when I login as guest,
I get some sort of bind error and then the root window appears very
quickly thus erasing the error before I can get a good look at what the
error is. The next message that appears says that the process is waiting
for the X server to respond. Some periods will appear on the screen as if
it is waiting. After some time the same message appears and the whole
waiting process begins again.

I was under the impression that everything on the distribution tapes was
setup so that X would run without any additional configuring. Has anyone
else had this problem? If so, what was the solution?

Thanks,
-bill

We've ported the X11R4 source (from MIT) to Mach 2.5 running on
a Sun 3/160. We have not tried using the binaries provided by CMU.

If anyone is interested in what you have to do to make X work
on Mach, please send email and we'll send our notes.
