[comp.os.mach] Status of Mach for the Mac?

Worn-out question #3464312:

Last I heard, there were some legal issues (e.g. Apple not wanting Mach
to be released for Macs for obvious reasons) preventing the release of
Mach for the Mac. Is this still the case, or will we see a publicly
available version for Macs at some point here in the future?

Any info would be appreciated.

Why on earth would Apple's desire to have a particular software
product available make any legal difference about whether other people
can write/distribute such a program? If they claim not only the sole
right to write programs implementing their sad user interface, but
also the sole right (which they might assign) to write programs which
run on their hardware, we have truly entered the brave new world in
which I will no longer want to write software.
