I don't neccesarily disagree with the points raised about it being neccesary to support US farming in general due to the effiency that it grows cheap food, however what Dylan brought up was TOTALLY inappropriate under the circumstances. Especially when every 5 minutes the tv audience was being told "every SINGLE dollar you pledge will get to Africa to provide food ! ". Dylan was being selfish in bringing up a subject that had little to do with saving millions of people from STARVING TO DEATH. 1 or 2 million dollars would represent 10-20 000 lives based on a $ 100 /year expenditure. Tell me seriously how many farms(saved) would that be worth, compared to the lives of 10-20,000 human beings. Unless you consider that American jobs and way of life are more important than African lives. I seriously doubt that you do but that's exactly what would be the result if the funds were diverted as Dylan suggested. [ $100/yr was the last available figure I could find for per capita income for Ethiopia].
