[net.followup] Dylans cause vs "Live Aid"

I don't neccesarily disagree with the points
raised about it being neccesary to support US farming
in general due to the effiency that it grows cheap food,
however what Dylan brought up was TOTALLY inappropriate
under the circumstances. Especially when every 5 minutes
the tv audience was being told "every SINGLE dollar you
pledge will get to Africa to provide food ! ". Dylan
was being selfish in bringing up a subject that had
little to do with saving millions of people from
STARVING TO DEATH.

1 or 2 million dollars would represent 10-20 000 lives
based on a $ 100 /year expenditure. Tell me seriously
how many farms(saved) would that be worth, compared to
the lives of 10-20,000 human beings.
Unless you consider that American jobs and way of life
are more important than African lives. I seriously
doubt that you do but that's exactly what would be
the result if the funds were diverted as Dylan suggested.

[ $100/yr was the last available figure I could find for
per capita income for Ethiopia].

PS - Dylans comments are valid, as is your position,
but NOT in the context of the "Live Aid" concert.
