I have gotten several requests for answers to the question about mach that I posted recently. It seems there is enough general interest to post the results of my search. > 1) How does one get information about mach? ftp wb1.cs.cmu.edu (128.2.250.16) User: anonymous Password: <You must put your email address here> cd /usr/mach/public/doc Write email to: mach@cs.cmu.edu > 2) How can one get Mach on the internet? Vax, Sun 3 and IBM RT PC are distributed on reel tape or cartridges. For i386 machines, CMU uses "sup" (software upgrade protocol) an internet protocol to distribute MACH to people with the necessary licenses(see below). > 3) What machines does Mach run on? There are versions of Mach 2.5 for the following machines: Vax(mainframe and MicroVax) Sun 3 IBM RT PC i386 > 4) How large is Mach? Mach 2.5 i386 Recommend hard disk >= 100Meg binaries ~30Meg kernel source ~15Meg Sun 3 requires at least one 70Meg hard disk Vax requires at least one 70Meg hard disk > 5) What licenses are required to run Mach, and how does one > get it? I don't know how to get any of these. :-( I not sure which of the following are required because I have gotten some conflicting information. Mach 2.5 license 4.3 BSD source license AT&T V3.2 source license Sun 3 seems to require a Sun binary or Source license. Tom Epperly epperly@osnome.che.wisc.edu
