[comp.sys.next] Does anyone know how the widowing software is layered?

I'm concerned about the eventual integration of NeXT cubes into
the emerging windowing environment.   X11 and NeWS seem to be 
headed for integration, and Display Postscript will probably 
also fit in, but what about NeXT Step?   Will it be possible to
replace the windowing system underneath Display Postscript (with X11?) 
on the NeXT cube and have everything still work?  

How is the software in NeXT STep layered?
