[comp.sys.next] NeXT non-commercial software distribution site

access@iucs (BACS Access) (10/22/88)

The Center for Innovative Computer Applications (CICA) at Indiana
University is establishing a central repository and distribution
site for items related to the NeXT, Inc. workstation. This site
will attempt to coordinate the distribution efforts for software
developed at the myriad of small NeXT development sites which
are appearing at universities throughout the country.

CICA believes the NeXT machine is a quantum leap in the right direction
as far as the academic workstation is concerned and is devoting a number
of resources to this project in partnership with its parent Academic
Computing, the Computer Science Department, and Learning Resources.

It is our belief that the Interface Builder "Palettes" will proliferate
somewhat in the manner of HyperCard stacks. CICA wishes to be a central
distribution site for those who wish to share and perfect this type of
mechanism. In addition, we feel that ported code will begin appearing
soon and wish to make it available to as many people as possible.

If you are the author of a "Palette" or "Object" or have ported code to
the NeXT workstation and wish to make it widely available to the academic
community, please contact:

Files and information may be sent to cica@gold.bacs.indiana.edu (internet)
or cica@iubacs (bitnet) for the interim until a machine becomes designated
for the project and allows anonymous ftp as well as Bitnet access. When that
access is available, information on where to send and how to access will be
made available through this newsgroup.
