I'm curious about how many writes one could expect to get on the optico-magnetic NeXt disc? In the absence of any knowledge, it would seem to me that there should be a limit to the number of times you could heat material to the Curie point and have it remain in tip-top condition. I don't see that 30% backup space would make too much difference if there were a sufficiently low limit on the number of permissible writes, since on a well-used disk (especially if it is used for swapping) more than 30% of it could easily be written to *a lot*. I haven't seen any data on this. Surely they would have done tests to see how often one could write to such a disc, wouldn't they? -- -------------------- Sarge Gerbode -- UUCP: pyramid!thirdi!metapsy!sarge Institute for Research in Metapsychology 950 Guinda St. Palo Alto, CA 94301
