I am a new (read, poor) Professor of Oceanography at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I need a workstation. I've used Suns, and can stand them if I have to, but choke at the cost ($15000 in this cold land). I also like Macs but don't own one. And, a MacSE here costs about $3000 for a university. Too much, as far as I can tell, since I'm still used to MIT prices. And then, I here about the NeXT, which sounds like just the ticket. But I'd like to know what these babies are like. I've asked for information from NeXT, but that may take a while coming. I'd like to know if there are any Canadians who've seen them yet. If there's anyone out there willing to spend a few minutes at their editor, I'd appreciate any e-mail you could send me with helpfull info. Some of my questions include: 1) Are there any in scientific research labs yet, or will that take a few more months? 2) Are there any in Canada? 3) Could I hang one off an ethernet-work of Sun's, with a Sun acting as a fileserver for it? 4) Must I buy a NeXT mag-disk? In the Sun community, a lot of people opt out of the expensive Sun disks. 5) Where should I look to learn more?
