From: Jim Mayer <mayer> A while back I posted a message asking for information about rust proofing. I got back an awesome four responses (oh well), of which: One mentioned that Rusty Jones will repair any rust under warranty, and that most others will not. One praised 'Ziebart' and slammed Sym-teck. This person used to apply Sym-teck at an auto dealers so ought to know. One passed on the claim that "one never knows about the competence of the people in a particular franchise, and they usually make a mess of the car". The last mentioned the business of having the doors and panels drilled and spraying in crankcase oil once a year. There was a discussion of this on the net a while back that I don't clearly recall. Another place to look is an article in the May 1984 issue of Consumer Reports titled "how to keep your car (almost) forever". They don't mention rust proofing, but note that washing the car really helps alot. My current plans are to skip rust proofing, and to spend the money on frequent washings and an occasional inspection. If anyone wants the complete text of the responses, send me a note and I'll pass it on. -- Jim Mayer University of Rochester (arpa) mayer@Rochester.ARPA Department of Computer Science (uucp) rochester!mayer Ray P.
