[net.auto] NJ Inspection Stickers

ken@hrpd3.UUCP (K.COCHRAN) (07/24/85)

Are others experiencing the difficulty I'm having
gettitng the new NJ inspection stickers to stay
stuck to the windshield in hot weather. They strike
me as being terribly badly designed.
I'm talking of the kind with the big paper month number
in the middle. Any comments ?

I've also been having such trouble. My sticker is currently scotch-taped
to the window.

Just a guess, but if your sticker was last on the passenger side
of your winshield and now you've got it on the left side there is
probably a buildup of dirt &/or grease in that spot. Remember that
the original sticker went on a brand-new winshield that was clean,
and that the subsequent sticker went on a spot that had a sticker scraped
off of it. This leaves a good base for adherence.

Try cleaning the spot for the sticker with a grease-removing glass
cleaner before applying a new sticker.

Mine started unsticking from the bottom, the day it was put on.
It is now hanging on by the top quarter. That is since early May so
I don't think the temperature has much to do with it.

I agree that the new inspection stickers are bad news. Mine is presently
sitting on my dashboard. The state decided it could save money by not printing
stickers with the month on it, using a cheap paper month insert on a yearly
generic sticker.

The question I have is: What is the "approved" method for reattaching
the stickers that will not upset the inspectors next year?

Not only is the adhesive bad, but the number fades into invisibility
in two months!

Yes, i know what you mean. I got my NJ inspection sticker
at the end of June. Now I can barely see the number 6. And I
thought it was just the strong Indiana sun.
