[comp.sys.next] NeXTs remotely

dd26+@andrew.cmu.edu (Douglas F. DeJulio) (06/10/89)

So, we've got one NeXT box used by our department, but most people
can't get to it easily. It's ultra-fast when you telnet in, however.
So the result is, a lot of people use the NeXT box remotely.
Unfortunately, we end up using a castrated version of the cube because
of this. Any way to get the functionality of, for example, the
Digital Librarian from a terminal? How about printing or editing a
write-now file? Or an RTF Edit file? Is any support planned?

Another thing that's common is people logging in to a Sun, uVax or
IBM-RT and running X, and wanting to suck cycles from another machine.
This would be greatly facilitated if we had X libraries for the NeXT
box. Absurd as that sounds, has anyone tried running X applications
with the DISPLAY environment variable set to something reasonable?

One last thing that'll seem silly. Can we get C++ for the Cube?
