[comp.sys.next] Canon buying in

sandhoff@csusac.uucp (John Sandhoff) (06/15/89)

The business section of our local papers has announced that NeXT will
be marketing the cube overseas, thru Canon. It's also been announced
that Canon is investing $100 million in Next, acquiring a 16% share
of the company (and making NeXT worth about $600 mil).

Here's some personal readingbetweenthelines: NeXT is going to do color.
That's a given they MUST. In the initial training camps, we were told
that color would *not* be a 'me too' proposition that when color became
available, it would be complete and impressive (what's a color monitor
without a color printer?). And what could Canon add to the NeXT? That's
right the color print technology that's crucial to the success of
electronic snapshots. *This is only my opinion*, based upon nothing
but a knowledge of the companies involved....

Besides NeXT, name another company that Jobs has a stake in.

No, not T/Maker. Yes, Pixar is the one I was thinking of.

A NeXT color diplay processor incorporating Pixar technology is what
I'm expecting...

Re: Canon investing $100 million in NeXT

Does this mean NeXT is having some financial troubles? After all,
that's 20% of the net worth of the company!
