My hacked-together VT-100 emulator is now available via anonymous ftp from cyclone.stanford.edu (36.83.0.188) in the pub directory (filename is Newvt.tar). It should be available on j.cc.purdue.edu shortly. Now, a couple of things to bear in mind. This is a very basic, rather crude emulator. It does not have 132-column mode, nor double width/high characters, nor some other features. Frankly I haven't seen any applications (even those on all-DEC systems) that use those features. Are they worth supporting? This application simply runs under Terminal and "cleans up" its response. Cursor addressing, for instance, seems to work much better. The bell works. Region scrolling *seems* to work, though there may still be a few bugs there. An improved, stanalone version is in the works, and may be ready by the time 1.0 comes out. Suggestions as to what to include (or what to leave out) would be appreciated. I'd also like to hear about bugs you may find. Keep in mind, though, that if you have a particularly demanding application that requires much of a VT-100, this probably won't do the trick. I'd be particularly interested if a mainframe emacs fails to run, since that is essentially why I threw this together, to run emacs on our mainframe from a NeXT. I do know that there continue to be problems if the terminal window has been resized from its default screen and character size. I'm working on a fix for that.
