[comp.sys.next] uucp on 0.9

After working to get uucp running, I thought others might find this info
useful.

If you are going to be doing dial in/out, you need to use /dev/ttya. This
is in the users manual, but I was assuming that the two ports were identical.
Also, Mac modem cables will not work for dial in/out. You need one that takes
DCD from the modem to pin 7 of Serial A.

Also, there is a problem where getty will get in a state where it won't open
/dev/ttyda even though DCD is asserted. This does not happen all the time, but
frequently enough to be annoying. I've called Tech Support on this one and
they know about the bug. One grotesque way around this problem is to kill and
restart getty periodically (carefully).

Also, the sources to the dialer were very useful in tracking down configuration
problems with the modem. Use -x9 on uucico. In fact, I built uucp from
scratch because there was no dialer support for Telebit modems.

Hope this helps some harried individuals.
