[comp.sys.next] Optical Drive Controller Chips

croley@walt.cc.utexas.edu (David T. Croley) (09/06/89)

I don't have a NeXT, but I was wondering if someone who did could
look inside it and tell me who makes the Optical Drive controller
chips. Maybe someone will know. I think that WD is the only
company making OD controller chips, but I am not sure.
Thanks for any help.

According to Bruce Webster's "NeXT Book", and several technical articles
in Byte, Unix World, etc..., the chip which controls the Optical Drive
was designed by NeXT, Inc.
