I am looking for some people who have NeXT machines acting as file servers to find out how much of a burden it puts on the machine. We are currently considering whether to put a local disk on each NeXT, set up one NeXT as a file server, or purchase disk space from a SPARCstation file server. Can you let me know the following information at your convenience: 1) What disk/memory configuration do you have on your server. 2) How many clients does it server (Are any of these clients across a bridge? If so, how much does it affect performance?) 3) Are the clients heavy disk access users? 4) What is the relative performance of the file server machine functioning as a user machine or is it dedicated. We are also considering putting a QUANTUM PS40 disk in the networked machines for swap space so that we wouldn't be swapping over the network. Does anyone have any experience with this? I will summarize the results that I get and my experiences when I get a little further along. Larry Landry University of Rochester PS - Thanks in advance -- Larry Landry University of Rochester
