[comp.sys.next] Allegro CL Manual on the NeXT

teddy@akbar.Franz.COM (Ted Gilchrist) (10/29/89)

The following files, which implement and document CLMAN (Franz Inc's
CL Manual running under GNU Emacs), on the NeXT machine, are now available
by anonymous FTP (file ~ftp/pub/franzinc/next/clman.tar.Z on hosts
uunet.uu.net and ucbvax.berkeley.edu).

	clman.el	(generic CLMAN code)
	next-clman.el	(next-specific CLMAN code)
next-cook-data.el (code for generating tables used by CLMAN)
	README (this document)
spec.next.n	(the user guide to CLMAN)

This version of CLMAN documents the following categories of Franz
symbols (all of which are extensions of Common Lisp):

	mp	: the multiprocessing package
about	: general overviews (eg. about-compiling)
	compiler: the compiler package
	excl	: the excl package
	foreign	: the foreign-functions package
	sys	: the system package
objc	: the objective-c package (Allegro CL interface
			to Objective C)
	tpl	: the top-level package

This is essentially the same CLMAN that is available on most platforms
that support Franz's Allegro CL. Note. however, that we do not
presently provide documenation on the NeXT machine for generic Common
Lisp symbols.

The NeXT version of CLMAN uses the Common Lisp manual database that
is shipped with NeXT version 1.0. In addition, each time you look
up a symbol, CLMAN saves the manual page in a special directory,
for future reference. This saves nroffing time, and gives your manual
the property of improving with age.

If you have any questions about the installation or operation of CLMAN
on the NeXT, please do not hesitate to address them to me.

	Enjoy,
	Ted Gilchrist
