I've often wondered why NeXT didn't put one of those slick 3.5" 1.44 Meg
floppies in the monitor, conceal it nicely on the side, so that the slot
is unobtrusive etc.

The idea would be to use the drive for software distribution etc.
It seems inexpensive enough, and the capacity is high enough for *most*
software packages.  Anything larger can use the floptical media.

The only drawback is that it might be slow, but I maintain that that is ok.
It doesn't need to be blindingly fast.  They could run it over a pair
of serial wires in the monitor cable 34K baud should be fast enough for most
situations.
