[comp.sys.next] Is there a screen lock for NeXT?

giant@lindy.Stanford.EDU (Buc Richards) (12/08/89)

Is there a password protected screen locking program for the cube,
this would be a lot faster than logging in and out.

Thanks.

I know that Bryce Jasmer, the NeXT CC and cs.orst.edu archive admin has a
program called LockScreen that does exactly what you want. It's a great
program, but I'm not sure if he has it in the public domain.
Any plans on this Bryce?

OK, time for me to say something to the net on this one.

I am extremely sorry that I wasn't more punctual in getting a version of
LockScreen done that worked for 1.0. School was starting when 1.0 came out
and by the time I was ready to start working on LockScreen again school was
going too fast for me to have time to update LockScreen. Right now it is
finals week (compilers test tomorrow morning :-( ). As soon as this week is
over I will get LockScreen version 2.1 finished.

It is not in the public domain, it is sold under the shareware system (however
faulty that system is) for $53 plus $2 P&H. If you send an optical disk, I
will copy it to your optical (without touching what is already there) and
you will get a $50 discount. If you get LockScreen off the net, I ask that
you send $3 to the address mentioned in the README file. If you don't have
acess to the net, Snail-mail $3 to me and I will email the program to any
reachable email address (UUCP, Bitnet, CompuServe, etc. etc.)

Once again, I plan on having version 2.1 finished and in distribution by
the end of the calendar year.
