Howdy, folks. Let's try to keep this newsgroup from deteriorating into NeXT vs Mac vs Amiga wars. Instead, let's get some nice hacks and technical information, and we can all be happy. When posting, ask yourself: Is my knee jerking spasmodically? Here's my contribution. Why and wherefore* does it take such a long time to open a simple terminal window? On my Amiga I can pop up a new Shell (roughly equivalent to a terminal window), including reading, parsing, and executing a startup file, in under 0.3 seconds. Is the time lost in the PostScript interpreter, in the task switching, in the commands fetch from the hard disk, or what? I love the NeXT computer, but we have to start identifying these weak links and make the sucker fly . . . -tom ------------------------------ * re-read Romeo and Juliet if you question this usage. `Wherefore art thou Romeo' does not contain a comma.
