[comp.sys.next] Third Party Disks for the NeXT?

karl@cgdisis.ucar.edu (12/21/89)

Greetings, (Oh wealth of resources) NeXT users.

Has anyone successfully connected third party disks to the external
SCSI port on the (v1.0) NeXT machine? If so, which drives have worked and
which have not? What steps were performed in either case, and why were
they taken? I'll summarize to this list.
	    Thanks for your time.

i'm told that the CDC Wren V SCSI disks "just work" on the NeXT. the unit
we are buying has been configured with a CDC Wren V 94181-640, 640 Mb
unformatted. these can be had for about $3000, which is about $3000 less
than what NeXT wants.

i plan on connecting my NEC CDR-77 CD-ROM player to the external SCSI port.
hopefully, this won't be too painful.

from reading this group, i gather that 8Mb RAM is not adequate. can someone
email their success/sob story about using 4Mb parts? if it is not recommended
i guess i'll simply expand to 16Mb using 1Mb parts.

thanks,
