My 1979 Renault LeCar has just gone thru its second catalytic converter. It seems one of the internal baffles came loose and blocks the flow of exhaust gases. About 3 years ago the same problem occured. The converter carries a 5yr/50k mile warranty, and so it was replaced under warranty. This time, the dealer tells me my converter is not under warranty, notwithstanding the fact that they themselves replaced it (I showed him the receipt with the mileage listed on it). It was my understanding that emission control equipment, such as the converter, carried a 5 yr/50k mile warranty because federal law required it. Is this a fact? If so, why won't this apply to the new converter they installed 3 years ago? Am I being taken? Please respond ASAP by mail... P.S. Don't buy a Renault. Nothing but trouble. ===== Alberto Segre Artificial Intelligence Research Group Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Coordinated Science Laboratory University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign ARPA: uicsl!segre@uiuc.ARPA CSNET: uicsl!segre@uiuc.CSNET UUCP: ...!{ihnp4, convex, pur-ee}!uiucdcs!uicsl!segre
