Folks,
We have a repeatedly annoying problem with some of the new 40MB
swapdrives from NeXT. As we run 25 diskless client hosts these drives
are/need to be important to us. Upon bootup, the ROM Monitor gives the
error:
"System test failed"
error 81.
To see what is really going on, we boot the failed NeXT
from the ROM Monitor (ben command, we're using bootp from the
server to send mach to the diskless client.
When the machine is booted from the ROM monitor, the error message is
the following:
SCSI 53C90 Controller Target 7 as SC0 at 0x2014000
S0 (6,0) ERROR op:0x0 sd_state:7 SCSI status 0x0
Generic SCSI device as sg0 at sc0 target 7 lun7
...etc...
Then normal messages.
The peculiar thing is, that nothing unusual appears in /usr/adm/messages
on the disk-full SERVER. However, the client (disk-less) has an
interesting /usr/adm/messages entry:
mach: vndoe_pageout failed!
mach: vnode_pageout failed!
last message repeated 4 times.
...etc.... more stuff
Now, I couldn't find any reference to vnode_pageout or vnode_pagein for
that matter in /usr/include/sys/errno.h. Does anyone with sources have a
reference to any of these or related error messages that they could
share? I'll gladly summarize to the nets if there's enough response on
these or related errors. If it turns out that the latest swapdrives
aren't worth what Quantum gave them to NeXT for, then we'll at least
know what to plan for later....:-)
Thanks in advance!
