Hi folks! I am not a NeXT hacker, but I would like to know from you net-landers how NeXT compares with other workstations. I am a Unix/VMS user, though I am overwhelmed by the publicity of NeXT machine and its sleak black-box look. I would appreciate if some of you could shed some light on how this machine compares to other stations, such as, SparcStation from SUN, MacIIcx running A/UX (Apple Unix) from Apple, Dec Station 3100 (Ultrix or VMS) from Digital, etc. I do intend to buy a personal workstation in near future. If NeXT does not support, or, has limited network software (such as the one supplied in BSD) then NeXT won't be a great help to me. I thought it to be best to ask NeXT users and see if they are satisfied with the product overall. Can NeXT machine be your answering machine? Can it convert an audio message to text message? Somehow, whenever I think of NeXT machine, it is the DSP chip that excites me a lot! Is it any good? Thanks in advance. Can someone tell Steve Jobs not to include string "NeXT" in every software/OS name. Binod Taterway, User Consultant, Lehigh University Computing Center Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA 18015.
