[comp.sys.next] f2c really does a nice job!

For those of you who haven't had a chance to try the CMU/Bellcore/Bell Labs
f2c (Fortran to C) converter mentioned in an earlier message in this group,
you're really missing out. It performs VERY nicely.

I fed it some grungy old Fortran (specifically, a factory layout code called
CRAFT dating from the 1960's, but still more or less the state-of-the-art for
the algorithm employed) and the resulting C ran slick as anything without
requiring ANY human touchup. (CPU times were about 2.7-2.8 times what they
were when run on a VAX 8800, but hey, I can live with those kind of speeds!)

Truly, if you have a lot of old Fortran code sitting around, can't afford the
Absoft compiler for a NeXT, and don't need the Object Oriented routines the
Absoft product provides, f2c is a godsend.

Thank you CMU, Bellcore and Bell Labs!
