[net.auto] Question on previously posted Fiero article?

drr@ihopa.UUCP (D. R. Rueckheim) (09/04/85)

A while ago someone posted an article about a problem that they had
with a Fiero. I seem to remember that it had something to do with
the engine stalling or balking at highway speeds. The author included
a fix for the problem in the article. It seems that I am having a
similar problem, but since I didn't save the original article I don't
have the fix. If anyone on the net has a copy of the article, or the
author can send my the info I would appreciate it greatly.

                                           Thanks in advance,

*** REPLACE THIS LINE WITH YOUR CAR PROBLEM ***

Hi. Lot's of reply problems with our mailer here - so I had to post this
reply to the net. Sorry for any inconvenience.

I raised the question about my Fiero jerking at highway speeds - and as
time went on even city speeds. The problem is with the emissions sensors and
switches. Two persons responded to my inquiry, one said the oxygen sensor
needed replacement, the other (an owner) said the TPS switch (whatever that
is!!) needed replacing. I replaced the O sensor, since I was leaving on a long
trip and couldn't get service on the car - but to no avail. Take the car to
the dealer, it's the TPS switch - at least it was for mine. If you're able to
get at the engine codes (there was a posting recently about how to do that
on GM cars with a paper clip...) it's code 22 => replace TPS switch.
The car runs like new now. A point, I drove it for about 3 months (I know,
not too smart) with it messed up and have no problems now. Those sensors
seem to be linked to the fuel injection through the car uprocessor.
As time went on, the "check engine" light came on intermittently - a
give-away that the problem is emissions related. Also, since the emissions
stuff is 5 year/50,000 mile mandated warranty, it was FREE!!
Good luck.
