[net.auto] paint info request

thrapp@noscvax.UUCP (09/12/85)

I am considering having a 1967 Buick painted. The paint
is fair now but I want it to be superb. The different paints,
paint additives, and coatings in the ads in the yellow pages
are intimidating: acryllic, latex, enamel, polyurethane, ...,
with various kinds of baking and protective coatings.

One person I spoke with said laquer is good paint.
He said they teflon coat their cars so that the finish
could last 7 years without waxing. He also said that the
preparation work can have a major impact on the result.

What I want is a good smooth, shiny surface that takes wax well
and lasts. Since the cheaper paint jobs seem to be around
$200 or less, I am assuming that high quality ones may
be around $500 to $600. I would greatly appreciate
recommendations on the type of paint to use, what type of
preparation should be performed, where to have it done,
and any other important details.

Thank you very much.
