[comp.sys.next] MovieTool

flynn@pixel.cps.msu.edu (Patrick J. Flynn) (03/19/90)

Once upon a time, I had a hand in the development of a 'movie player'
which ran under the Suntools environment. It read the frames of the
movie from a file; each frame was a pixrect, they were all the same
size, etc. etc. Using alarms (I think), the frames were repeatedly
blitted onto the screen, producing smooth animation.

Question: Has anyone written a similar beast for the NeXT? I envision
a program which reads a stack o' TIFFs, or even a stack of EPSs or
PSs, renders them into Bitmaps, and blasts the frames out using alarms,
timed entries, or even the Animator object (written by Richard
Crandall, and used so skillfully by Carl Sutter at USC in his demos).

I don't have time at present to write this critter, but it seems
like a very useful tool to have lying around.
