When I ordered FrameMaker it was with the hopes that such a well-versed application would live up to its boasts. In some respects I have found FrameMaker to be extremely versatile, and well worth the praise. On the other hand, I purchased this application with the expressed intent of replacing my currently heavy use of TeX with a WSYWYG document preparation system. I was told that FrameMaker completely supports book preparation, but now I find that bibliographic databases and references are not supported at all. Poor advertising. Not that I believe everything that a company tells me on the phone. So, does anyone have a way to prepare reference lists and cites in FrameMaker? Preferably in a smart way? Or am I a TeX man once again? Thanks for any comments. Jack Hodges, SFSU

frame's auto-numbering and cross-reference capabilities seem to do exactly what i want for references; what more do you need? -- .mike.

I guess you just got off the boat. How about access to a bibliographic database in some standard form (such as bibtex format)? How about access to and use of format style files so that different standard cite and reference formats can be adhered to with a keystroke? How about single command ease of use instead of some masturbation at the keyboard? Wake up Mike! Then again, maybe your job pays at the level of keystroke, but mine does not.

hey, that's pretty bad taste, jerk. if you want suggestions, ask the net. if you want to get abusive, take it out somewhere else. -- .mike.

FrameMaker does not support access to bibliographic databases. Some people coming from strong non-wysiwyg applications are not happy with wysiwyg apps like FrameMaker. Then again alot of people love it. I'm sorry if our marketing claims gave you the wrong impression of FrameMaker. If you really want to have an impact, you can post suggestions to comments@frame.com. Also make sure you have release 2.0a. You can use the macro facility to create single character key equivalents. 2.0 has limited macro trigger abilities. -greg.
