I'm curious about a discrepancy in RFC 1060; TCP port 178 is assigned for NextStep, but the "UNIX" list shows NSWS on 3049 (which NeXT used in the 0.9 release). /etc/services has NSWS on 178. I'd like to be able to ship DNS master files around in source form; Now that 178 is officially blessed can we agree on service names so I can list it in WKS records? -=EPS=- ------- RFC 1060 Assigned Numbers March 1990 PORT NUMBERS Ports are used in the TCP [45,106] to name the ends of logical connections which carry long term conversations. For the purpose of providing services to unknown callers, a service contact port is defined. This list specifies the port used by the server process as its contact port. The contact port is sometimes called the "well-known port".
