[comp.sys.next] linemode telnet available for anonymous FTP from sutro.sfsu.edu

eps@toaster.SFSU.EDU (Eric P. Scott) (05/03/90)

The following files are in the pub subdirectory on sutro.sfsu.edu:

telnet.Z NeXT executable
telnet.1c.Z man page, also included in the following:
telnet-src.tar.Z	Source files and manual page

These are derived from the 90.03.01 saveset on ucbarpa.berkeley.edu.

This is the "4.4 BSD-ready" version 5.45 of BSD telnet.
(4.3-tahoe includes 5.33; NeXT ships 5.16)

This version supports RFC 1116 linemode telnet, window
size subnegotiation, terminal speed subnegotiation, .telnetrc
files, and more.

Linemode capability has been successfully tested against a Cray
Y-MP running UNICOS, and the other "new" functions against
MultiNet for VAX/VMS. (It's soooo nice to have an alternative
to rlogin!)

The full Berkeley distribution also includes a slick new telnetd,
but, alas, it requires kernel modifications that only NeXT can
install (hint, hint, hint, hint). Hence I am only redistributing
the client side.

I encourage you to rename or back up NeXT's
	/usr/ucb/telnet
	/usr/man/man1/telnet.1c
	/usr/man/cat1/telnet.1c (if you have it)
before installing the newer versions.
